Commission Work

If you’re looking for a unique piece of original art, or would like to discuss a commission, I’d love to hear from you.

People often commission me to paint their family home, holiday bach, favourite beach, or another place that holds special memories.

A special place is about much more than a beautiful view. It may be the old family bach where generations have gathered over summer, with uneven floors, sun-baked salty air, birdsong and waves that lull you to sleep.

As time passes, these places often change. Renovations happen, new houses are built, or a much-loved property is sold. A painting can preserve those memories and bring you back to that special place each time you look at it.

How the Commission Process Works.

Initial Discussion‍ ‍

  • We’ll begin by talking about your ideas, the place or subject you’d like painted, the size of the artwork and your preferred timeframe. This can be by email or phone.

Visiting the Location

  • Where possible I like to visit the location to gain a sense of its atmosphere and what makes it special to you. I’ll look at different viewpoints, consider the changing light and surroundings, and take reference photographs. If a visit isn’t practical, I can work from your photos.

Concept drawing

  • Every painting begins with a detailed drawing for your approval before painting starts. This ensures you’re happy with the composition before I begin. Once I have a clear understanding of your vision, I’ll prepare a pencil drawing for your approval. This gives you the opportunity to make any changes before painting begins.

Creating your Painting

  • Once the drawing has been approved and the price agreed upon, I’ll ask for a deposit before beginning the painting. The balance is payable on completion.

Timeframe

  • If you have a deadline, such as a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, please get in touch as early as possible. Three months notice is ideal, although more time is always appreciated.
